Michael Schmerda (born August 29, 1985 in Zurich , Switzerland ) is a German ice hockey player of Czech origin who has been a striker for EHC Herrischried since 2014 .
Career
Michael Schmerda, whose parents moved from Ostrava in the Czech Republic to Freiburg im Breisgau in the 1980s and ran a restaurant there, began ice hockey at the age of six. His mother, who later became a single parent, registered Michael with the EHC Freiburg and the footballers of SG Landwasser, although he initially played more football. He later decided to play ice hockey and went through the junior teams of the EHC.
He also celebrated his greatest successes with the junior team - winning the German junior championship title twice in 2003 and 2004. The attacker made his DEL debut in the 2003/04 season and also played in the amateur team of the EHC Freiburg in the fourth-class Baden-Württemberg league . In the following season Schmerda was an integral part of the professional team, which was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga , but still played some players in the junior team. Also in the 2005/06 season , the Swiss regular was the Breisgauer , but could not prevent the team's relegation to the league .
The managing director of the Dresdner Eislöwen , Jan Tabor , became aware of Schmerda and engaged him in the summer of 2006 for the following season. The striker is considered a great talent as well as a very good ice skater and, in his first year in Dresden, formed a strong fourth row with Kilian Glück and Sebastian Wolsch , who regularly got Ice Age. After the relegation of the Eislöwen at the end of the season, Schmerda was initially out of the question for a contract extension, but was still committed to the league at the start of the season. After the ice lions rose again, the attacker stayed with the Elbstädtern until the end of the 2008/09 season and switched to league rivals Eispiraten Crimmitschau before the 2009/10 season . He left this after a year and planned to contest the 2010/11 season with the Kassel Huskies from the German Ice Hockey League . After it was established in September 2010 that the Kassel Huskies would not take part in the 2010/11 season, he moved to the Bietigheim Steelers in the 2nd Bundesliga .
In November 2010, he was released from the Steelers after scoring only one assist in 15 games. A week later he received a contract until the end of the season with the Dresdner Eislöwen, who financed him with the help of a sponsor. For the 2011/12 season Schmerda moved to EHC Dortmund in the Oberliga West. Since 2014 he has been playing at the EHC Herrischried in the fifth class 3rd division (Switzerland).
