Michael Timm (boxing trainer)

Michael Timm (born November 13, 1962 in Hagenow , Schwerin district , GDR ) is a German boxing trainer and former amateur boxer from the GDR.

Amateur career

As an 11-year-old Michael Timm began boxing in 1973 at Empor Zarrentin and Traktor Wittenburg. He trained once a week at both company sports associations before he was delegated to SC Traktor Schwerin in 1976 . As an amateur boxer, Timm was GDR youth champion in 1979 and junior champion in 1980. In the seniors he won the welterweight championship in 1981 and 1982 and in 1983 in the light middleweight division. His trainer was Fritz Sdunek . In 1984 and 1985 Michael Timm won the Chemistry Cup in Halle (Saale) . He also finished third at the 1985 World Cup in Seoul and was European light middleweight champion in Budapest . A little later he ended his boxing career.

Coaching career

In 1986 Timm became a trainer at Schweriner SC . From 1987 until its dissolution in 1990, he also coached the GDR junior national team. Under his leadership, Enrico Berger became Junior World Champions in 1989 and Torsten Bengston in 1990, and Jan Schwank in 1990 European Junior Champions. From 1991 he trained the state selection of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

From 1997 to 2012 Michael Timm was employed trainer at the Hamburg professional boxing stable Universum Box-Promotion ; since 2010 as the successor to Fritz Sdunek in the role of head coach. The boxers he supervised included Jürgen Brähmer , Serhij Dsindsiruk , Andreas Kotelnik , Ina Menzer , Wladimir Sidorenko , Dieter and Egon Roth , Lukas Wilaschek , Felix Sturm , Ruslan Chagayev , Stipe Drviš , Luan Krasniqi , Thomas Ulrich , Juan Carlos Gómez , Daisy Lang and Bert Schenk . As of August 2012, Timm will succeed Willi Ramin as head of the federal base of the German Boxing Association in Schwerin. His training group includes 16 boxers between the ages of 17 and 23.

Others

Michael Timm is married, has two daughters (* 1983/1986) and lives in Schwerin . In 1984 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze and in 1986 in silver.
