Michel Welter (born February 5, 1983 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg ice hockey goalkeeper who has been playing for the IHC Beaufort , which competes as a Luxembourg club in the Rhineland-Palatinate League , since 2012 .

Career

Michel Welter began his career as a hockey player at the top Luxembourg club Tornado Luxembourg , which at that time was not only participating in the Luxembourg league but also in the German league system. With the tornadoes he became Luxembourg champions in 2001 and 2002. The goalkeeper then moved to Tuusula , Finland , where he was on the ice for TuusKiekko in II-divisioona , the fourth Finnish ice hockey league . When he left Tuusula after a year, he stayed in Finland and guarded the gate for other lower-class clubs. In 2008 he returned to Central Europe and moved to the Belgian honor division , where he initially worked for the Liège Bulldogs . For the following season he first moved to the reigning Belgian champions White Caps Turnhout , but left this during the season and returned to his home club Tornado Luxembourg. Welter has been playing for the IHC Beaufort since 2012 , which currently plays in the German league system in the fifth-class Rhineland-Palatinate league.

International

Welter has already participated in U-18 and U-20 world championships for Luxembourg. As a 17-year-old, he made his debut in the 2000 D World Cup in the men's national team . He played all four of his team's games, but couldn't prevent Luxembourg from finishing eighth out of nine participating teams with just one win (7-5 over Turkey ). It was even worse for him two years later in Division II, when he had to accept 68 goals in five games - even against the penultimate from Iceland he conceded eight goals. The Luxembourgers were then divided into the newly founded Division III for the 2003 World Cup , from which they - again with Welter in goal - achieved immediate promotion to Division II. There they managed to win a point against Israel at the 2004 World Cup , but due to the goal difference being 40 goals less than they had conceded 70 goals in five games, the team around the goalie welter had to return to the bottom class. At the World Championships in 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 , 2013 , 2014 and 2015 , he was now on the ice for the team of the Grand Duchy in Division III. In 2007, the promotion to Division II was only just missed by a 3: 4 after penalty shoot-out in the decisive game against Ireland . In 2013, as in 2003 and 2006, Welter was named the best goalkeeper of the Division III tournament.
