Marinko "Mick" Vukota (born September 14, 1966 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 596 games for the New York Islanders , Tampa Bay Lightning and Canadiens de Montréal in the course of his active career between 1984 and 2000 of the National Hockey League (NHL) on the position of right winger . Vukota embodied the Enforcer player type .
Career
Vukota first spent his junior years in the 1983/84 season with the North Battleford North Stars in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) in his home province of Saskatchewan . From there, the striker moved in the summer of 1984 to the higher-class junior league Western Hockey League (WHL) to the Kelowna Wings , after he had already completed his first appearances there for the league competitor Winnipeg Warriors the previous year . After a year in Kelowna, he was from the 1985/86 season for two years for the Spokane Chiefs on the ice, which Vukota ran up during his time in the junior division for a total of three WHL franchises .
For the 1987/88 season, the enforcer moved undrafted to the professional field, but was signed as a free agent by the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League (NHL). Vukota spent most of his rookie season with the Springfield Indians , the Islanders' farm team , from the American Hockey League (AHL). Nevertheless, the attacker was also used 17 times by the Islanders in the NHL this year. From the 1988/89 season onwards, the Canadian was a regular for the New York Islanders for the next eight years and had by far his best year in the 1989/90 season with twelve points scorer . Vukota's time with the Islanders ended shortly after the start of the 1996/97 season when he was sent to cooperation partner Utah Grizzlies in the International Hockey League (IHL). There he ended the game year.
Before the 1997/98 season , Vukota was finally selected in the NHL Waiver Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning . After 42 missions he was transferred to the Canadiens de Montréal with Patrick Poulin and Igor Ulanow in the course of the season , who in return gave Stéphane Richer , Darcy Tucker and David Wilkie to the franchise from the US state of Florida . In Montréal, Vukota completed the season with another 22 missions and then moved back to the Utah Grizzlies in the IHL for the following two years until the summer of 2000. Then the Enforcer ended his active career, in which he collected a total of 4370 penalty minutes.
