Mike Peluso (* 2 September 1974 in Bismarck , North Dakota ) is a retired American ice hockey player , who during his playing career between 1994 and 2004 among other 38 games for the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League on the Has contested the position of the right winger . Most of the time, Peluso played in the American Hockey League . His cousin of the same name, nine years his senior, was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Peluso spent his junior years between 1992 and 1994 with the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League . With the team he was able to win the Clark Cup in both seasons and was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 in the tenth round in 253rd place by the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League . The striker was initially drawn to the University of Minnesota-Duluth , where, in addition to his studies, he played for the university team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He stayed at the university for a total of four years and received numerous individual awards.
After the Calgary Flames had not provided their former draft election with a contract, Peluso was hired as a free agent by the Washington Capitals in October 1998 , but only joined their farm team , the Portland Pirates , in the course of the following two years until November 2000 . used in the American Hockey League . Through an exchange with Derek Bekar , the striker was under contract with the St. Louis Blues from November 2000 . There he did not get beyond a squad place with the cooperation partner Worcester IceCats in the AHL.
In the summer of 2001, after his contract with St. Louis expired, Peluso joined the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent . In the service of the Blackhawks, the attacker made his NHL debut during the 2001/02 season and completed 37 encounters. In his second year of contract he played exclusively for the farm team Norfolk Admirals in the AHL. After the expiring contract was not extended again in the summer of 2003, the American moved to the Philadelphia Flyers . When he was there in the course of the 2003/04 season only once in the NHL and played again mainly in the farm club, he ended his active career early at the age of 30 before the 2004/05 season.
After the end of his career and a break of several years, Peluso looked after the team at Bismarck High School in his hometown between 2009 and 2012 . In addition, he was in the 2011/12 season as an assistant to the Bismarck Bobcats from the North American Hockey League behind the gang.
International
For his home country, Peluso took part in the 2000 World Cup in Saint Petersburg , Russia . There the winger completed all seven tournament encounters for the US team and collected four scorer points. The Americans finished the tournament in fifth place.
