Mitchell "Mitch" Callahan (born August 17, 1991 in Whittier , California ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Callahan, who was born and raised in the US state of California , played in the Los Angeles Kings' youth development program until 2008 . The winger then moved to the Kelowna Rockets from the Canadian Western Hockey League . There he spent the next three years and won the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the team in his rookie season . In the following Memorial Cup , the Rockets narrowly missed out on winning the tournament. In total, the American played 248 games for Kelowna over the course of three seasons, collecting 147 points and 510 penalty minutes.
After he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the sixth round at 180th position by the Detroit Red Wings from the National Hockey League and signed in May 2010, he finally moved to the professional field for the 2011/12 season . Callahan was there for Detroit's farm team , the Grand Rapids Griffins , in the American Hockey League . With the Griffins, the attacker won the Calder Cup in the 2012/13 season , to which he contributed eleven points in 24 play-off games. Callahan was also part of the Griffins squad for the following years. He first came to Red Wings in the 2013/14 season , which he followed four more at the end of the 2016/17 season . In addition, the attacker won the Calder Cup again with the Griffins at the end of the 2016/17 season.
After six years in the organization of the Red Wings, his contract was not extended after the 2016/17 season, so he joined the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent in July 2017 . There he played exclusively in the AHL farm team of the Oilers, the Bakersfield Condors . In July 2019, the Augsburg panthers signed the attacker, this is his first stop outside of North America.
