Mogán is a municipality on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria . It has 20,072 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) on an area of 172.43 km².
geography
The municipality of Mogán is located in the southwest of Gran Canaria . The neighboring municipalities are Tejeda in the north, San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the east and San Nicolás de Tolentino in the northwest. The main town of the municipality, the village of Mogán, is located in the Barranco de Mogán, which is considered to be one of the most fertile and scenic valleys in Gran Canaria. Around 700 people live in the town of Mogán itself, which has developed as a long-drawn-out settlement in the middle of fertile cultivated land on the edge of steep mountain slopes. Numerous houses are surrounded by lush gardens and are therefore a factor in the large number of tourists. The diversity of the gardens could only be created because of the abundance of water in the Barranco de Mogán, which also applies to the predominantly small fields in the valley where lemons, mangoes, papayas, aubergines and bananas ripen. In large greenhouses, cut and ornamental flowers intended for export are mainly grown.
Small towns with tourist hotels have sprung up in many valleys along the coastal road. Sand was procured from Western Sahara for at least one of the beaches .
