Mohammad Talaee or Mohammad Talaei ( Persian محمد طلایی; * March 8, 1973 or April 7, 1973 ) is a retired Iranian wrestler . He was the 1997 free style bantamweight world champion .

Life

Mohammad Talaee began wrestling as a teenager in 1986. After the first major successes in the national field, he became a member of the wrestling club Sazeman Abe Tehran . He was fully focused on the free style and has been coached by a number of coaches throughout his career: Ghanbar Modanloo, Rahmortolla Fortemi, Mohammad Ghasemi, Sobhan Roohi, Rasul Khadem , Ayoob Bahtaj, Sahram Nikhbakht and Mansoor Barzegar .

Mohammad Talaee, who studied sport, won a medal at an international championship as a junior. In 1993 he was third at the Junior World Championships (Espoirs = age group up to the age of 20) in Athens .

In 1994 he immediately entered the senior world championships. In Istanbul he was bantamweight behind Alejandro Puerto from Cuba , but above Bagautdin Umachanow from Russia and Hidemi Hanada from Japan , Vice World Champion . He could not repeat this success at the 1995 World Cup and at the 1996 Olympic Games, both of which were held in Atlanta . At both events he took 6th place in bantamweight. The winners each came from the United States: Terry Brands in 1995 and Kendall Cross in 1996 .

1997 Mohammad Talaee became world champion in bantamweight in Krasnoyarsk . He defeated Ojuunbilegiin Pürewbaatar from Mongolia , Serafim Barsakow from Bulgaria (with 6: 5 technical points), Ali Rachmatow from Tajikistan , Jung Jin-Hyuk from South Korea and Ramil Islamow from Uzbekistan .

This success was followed by a victory at the Goodwill Games in New York in 1998, ahead of Harun Doğan from Turkey and Anthony Purler from the United States. He could not defend his world championship title in Tehran in 1998 because he lost to his young compatriot Alireza Dabir in qualifying for this championship . In 1999 he was back at the World Cup in Ankara . He started there for the first time in featherweight (up to 63 kg body weight) and defeated Mehmet Yozgat from Turkey, Dawid Pogosjan from Armenia and Elman Asgarow from Azerbaijan , but lost the quarter-finals to Ramil Islamow from Uzbekistan and finished 6th.

In 2000 he took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney for the second time. At the beginning he lost there against Cary J. Kolat from the United States on points, then defeated Ramil Islamov and Arshak Hairadedjan from Armenia , before he had to bury his dreams of Olympic victory with a defeat against Serafim Barsakow from Bulgaria . He still got the chance to fight for the bronze medal against Jang Jae-Sung from South Korea . He lost this fight with 2:12 technical points. With a fourth place he again missed an Olympic medal.

In 2002 Mohammad Talaee won his last medal with a 3rd place at the world championship in Tehran in featherweight. He defeated there u. a. Arif Abdullayev from Azerbaijan and Petru Toarcă from Romania, but lost to Aram Margarjan from Armenia and Ojuunbilegiin Pürewbaatar . Both defeats were extremely close (3: 4 against Margarjan and through the referee's decision at 2: 2 against Ojuunbilegiin Pürewbaatar). For the last time he took part in a world championship in New York in 2003. He lost his first fight against Eric S. Guerrero from the United States. For his next fight against Michele Liuzzi from Italy he did not take part and ended up in 35th place.
