Monster in the Closet is an American horror - comedy from 1986. The film is also under the alternative title A Cookie Monster is in the house and monsters! known.

Reporter Richard Clark and his girlfriend, scientist Diane Bennett, investigate a series of murders in the small town of Chestnut-Hill, California . The killer is a monster that keeps coming out of the closet at night and is immune to any weapon. Panic breaks out and the military shows their powerlessness after the last attempt to stop the monster with the help of a modern laser fails . Clark falls into the grip of the monster and has to follow him to San Francisco . In the meantime it has been realized that the monster gets all its supernatural energy from the closets, which is why they are starting to destroy them all over the country. As a result, the monster becomes weaker and weaker until it dies on the streets of San Francisco.

The film had its world premiere on May 15, 1986 at the 1986 Cannes International Film Festival . In Germany the film was shown in cinemas on April 14, 1988 and has been available on VHS since August 1988 and on DVD since September 25, 2002.
