Ajdabiya ( Arabic أجدابية Adschdābiya , DMG Aǧdābīya ) is a former municipality that was located in the central north of the Libyan Arab Republic near the Great Syrte . It merged with the administrative reform of 2007 in the enlarged municipality al-Wahat , with Ajdabiya becoming thecapital of the new municipality.

165,839 people (as of 2003) lived in the former area of Ajdabiya, 84 percent of them (140,558 inhabitants, as of 2006) in the capital of the same name, Ajdabiya . The municipality covered an area of 91,620 km². Ajdabiya borders the Mediterranean Sea and the following former municipalities:
