Mutschkapski ( Russian Мучка́пский ) is an urban-type settlement in the Tambov Oblast in Russia with 7080 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 120 km as the crow flies southeast of the Tambov Oblast Administrative Center , just under 15 km from the border with Saratov Oblast . It is located not far from the left bank of the Worona , at the confluence of the Mutschkap river.
Mutschkapski is the administrative center of the Rajons Mutschkapski and seat and only town of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Mutschkapski possowet.
history
The place was first mentioned as Mutschkap in 1730 , when residents of the Korosteljowo village on the right bank of the Worona, which had existed since the beginning of the 15th century, settled there. By the end of the 18th century Mutschkap developed into the largest village in the area.
In 1928 Mutschkap became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. On January 8, 1958, the place received the status of an urban-type settlement under the current name.

The Mutschkap station is located in the settlement at kilometer 138 of the Tambov - Balaschow - Kamyshin railway line, which opened in 1894 .
A regional road leads to Mutschkapski and branches off the federal highway R208 Tambow - Pensa about 100 km north in Rasskasowo and runs through Rschaksa and Uvarowo . Between Mutschkapski and Uwarowo, a connection branches off to the R22 Kaspi , which runs a good 40 km to the west .
