Nőtincs [ nøːtinʧ ] ( Slovak Netejč , German Nititsch ) is a thousand-year history retrospective community in the north of Hungary in County Nógrád .

Demographic data

According to the 2001 census , the place has 1213 inhabitants. 96.3% of them are Hungarians; 0.6% Gypsies (or Sinti and Roma) ; 0.4% Germans; 0.4% Slovaks and 3.6% without further details. There are 466 residential units in the village.

Origin of name

The origin of the place name is uncertain. According to Lajos Kiss, it should be derived from the Slavic word Netyko , according to others, it should be able to be traced back to the Slavic words Neteč or Neteča .

There is also a vernacular - Theory : Oral tradition should in Zsukma Valley (Zsukma-Valley) on the Turks hill (Török-domb) of the harem of the Pasha have been Nógrád. Some of the Hungarian girls imprisoned there are said to have made a rope out of their braids, with which they are said to have lowered themselves out of the castle window. While fleeing, they dropped the cut braids. Therefore the village is said to have been called "Nőtincs" ( = "woman"; tincs = "locke").

Nőtincs is located in the north-western part of Nógrád county at the foot of the Naszály mountain. To the west of the village rise many mountains, the Börzsöny Mountains . The village is on the E77 ( main road 2 in Hungary ). It is located about 52 km from the capital Budapest . The village is surrounded by the Cserháter hills and by Mount Naszály.

Based on archaeological finds, it is assumed that the area of ​​Nőtincs was inhabited since prehistoric times. At the time of the Hungarian conquest, it was probably in royal possession. The first written mention comes from the year 1317 under the name Neutych . In the course of the centuries that followed, the following names appeared in various documents: Neuchech, Newtyth, Newtheth . The name Nőtencs is attested in the 17th century . The place remained in royal possession until the Árpád family died out. In 1549 it came under Turkish occupation. Many Slovak immigrants came in the 18th century.

Gyurcsányi Scitovszky Curia
  • Roman Catholic Church: built in 1415 in Gothic style. Rebuilt in 1720 in the baroque style.
  • Gyurcsányi Scitovszky Curia: built in 1809 by order of the Gyurcsányi family. Classicist style.
  • Statue of St. Florian: Erected in the 1780s. It is made of painted sandstone. Presumably set up on the occasion of the previous devastating fire damage.
  • Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk : built in 1892.
