NGC 3331 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Hydra south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 153 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 55,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3335 and IC 625 , among others .
The property was discovered by Frank Muller in 1886 .
