NGC 3312 = IC 629 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SA (s) b pec? in the constellation Water Snake south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 120 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 ly in diameter. The galaxy is part of the Hydra I galaxy cluster , also known as Abell 1060 . 
The galaxies NGC 3307 , NGC 3309 , NGC 3311 , NGC 3317 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 26, 1835 by John Herschel (listed as NGC 3312) and on February 26, 1887 by Guillaume Bigourdan (listed as IC 629).
