NGC 3296 = IC 618 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Hydra south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 384 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 75,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3280 , NGC 3295 , NGC 3297 , IC 617 , among others .
The object was discovered by Francis Leavenworth on February 26, 1886 .
