The NH Hotel Group, SA (formerly NH Hoteles, S. A.) is the third largest business hotel group in Europe. It was founded in 1978 in Navarra , Spain , and as of December 2019 operated 368 hotels with 57,466 rooms in 30 countries in Europe , North America , South America and Africa , including 56 hotels in Germany, 7 in Austria and 3 hotels in Switzerland.

In 2019, the NH Hotel Group achieved total sales of EUR 1.718 billion.

The company is listed on the Madrid Stock Exchange and in the STOXX Europe 600 . The Thai hotel chain Minor Hotels holds 94.13% of the NH Hotel Group.

In Germany , the NH Hotel Group operates 56 hotels, 47 of which are NH Hotels, 8 NH Collection Hotels in Berlin (2 ×), Frankfurt am Main , Cologne , Nuremberg , Dresden , Munich and Hamburg, and one nhow hotel in Berlin .

In Austria , 5 NH Hotels in Vienna , including 1 NH Collection Hotel, and 1 NH Hotel in Salzburg belong to the NH Hotel Group. Another hotel was opened in Graz in August 2018 .

In Switzerland , the NH Hotel Group is represented by two NH Hotels in Geneva and one NH Hotel in Friborg .

In the UK , the NH Hotel Group has an NH hotel in London Kensington . In addition, a nhow brand hotel was opened in London in 2020.

history

1978-2013

NH Hoteles was founded in 1978 in Pamplona , Navarra - the abbreviation NH stands for Navarra Hoteles . In 1997 the company went public as NH Hoteles S. A.

In 1999, NH Hoteles acquired shares in Jolly Hotels in Germany. In 2000, NH Hoteles took over the Dutch chain Krasnapolsky; In 2002, 53 hotels of the Astron chain followed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 2008, NH Hoteles set up a multi-award winning environmental protection and sustainability plan. The EU targets for CO ₂ savings for 2020 were met eight years in advance, namely in 2012.

The “Ecomeeting” concept for sustainable events was developed in 2010. For example, the CO ₂ consumption of a meeting or conference can be offset by donations to climate protection projects.

Development since 2014

As part of the restructuring of NH Hoteles into the NH Hotel Group in 2014, the company presented a five-year plan (2014-2018) with the aim of increasing customer satisfaction, sales and profit margins and improving its position in the market.

According to the company's own information, investments of around EUR 227 million are planned for the revaluation of the hotel portfolio in the period 2014–2016. a. to drive the launch of the new NH Collection brand.

In addition, a total of EUR 31.5 million was invested in the basic equipment of the guest rooms in 2014. The so-called Brilliant Basics include a. Specially made box spring beds, rain showers, Nespresso coffee machines, "Black Mambo" hairdryers and LED TVs.

As part of the plan, the company began to increasingly position itself as an innovation driver under the service promise “High Tech Made Easy”. In 2015, the NH Hotel Group was the first hotel chain to offer a network of permanently installed 3D hologram telepresence technology for meetings and events. Life-size holographic (live) projections of people or products and 3D videos can be used in nhow Berlin, in the NH Collection Eurobuilding in Madrid, in the NH Collection Constanza in Barcelona, in the nhow Milano and in the NH Collection Leeuwenhorst.

At the NH Collection Eurobuilding in Madrid, the only “Living Lab” in the world at that time was set up in 2014, a test laboratory for start-ups and the Group's own platform for technology experiments and live demonstrations that guests can test directly in the hotel. The NH Collection Eurobuilding was awarded the prize for “Best Technical Equipment” at the Hospitality Initiative Awards 2014 by the Gran Hotel Turismo magazine.

Together with the Chinese HNA Group , the NH Hotel Group launched the HNA-NH Hotel Management Joint Venture Company based in Beijing in February 2015 . Since then, the NH Hotel Group has managed part of the HNA Group's hotel portfolio on the Chinese market. The HNA Group also held 29.5% of the shares in the NH Hotel Group.

At the beginning of 2015, the NH Hotel Group announced the takeover of 20 hotels from the Latin American hotel chain Hoteles Royal.

At the end of 2018, the Thai group Minor Hotels held 94.1% of the NH Hotel Group. Since then, both companies have been working on integrating their hotel brands under one umbrella brand and will then be represented by 500 hotels in over 50 countries worldwide.

The DiverXO restaurant in the NH Collection Eurobuilding is the only 3-star restaurant in Madrid.

From January 12, 2016 to February 6, 2016, the American star chef Grant Achatz ran a pop-up restaurant under the name "Alinea Madrid" in the NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding.

Trivia

In October 2014, Sony Pictures hosted a holographic press conference at the NH Collection Eurobuilding for the screening of the film " Chappie ". Actor Hugh Jackman and director Neill Blomkamp were projected live onto the stage at the event . At the time, both people were not in Spain, but at the nhow Berlin hotel, more than 1,800 kilometers away. The 3D hologram technology enabled Jackman and Blomkamp to interact with the journalists present in Madrid without having to be there.
