The Football Club Luka Koper is a Slovenian football club from the seaport city of Koper .

history

NK Koper was founded in 1955 as a merger of the two local rivals Aurora and Meduza , which had been founded in the early 1920s. Under this name he played in the various Yugoslav leagues and was one of the most successful representatives of Slovenia. In 1984 and 1990 the regional cup was won. In 1990 the club was renamed FC Koper Capodistria .

After Slovenia gained independence in 1991, the club was one of the founding members of the 1st SNL . First get midfield positions, but in 1995 you fell victim to eleventh place in the league's reduction to ten teams and had to relegate to the second division. Although there were only sixth in the table, they immediately rose again, as the five teams placed in front of Koper did not meet infrastructure (stadium etc.) and financial requirements.

In the following years the club shuttled between the first and second division. It was not until 2001 that it was established in the first division and it got places in the top midfield. In 2002 the club was renamed FC Koper and a year later FC Anet Koper . 2005 ended the season on the relegation place, because of the license withdrawals for ND Mura 05 and NK Ljubljana , the games were canceled and Koper automatically stayed in the league.

2005/06 reached the club again at the top and was third in the table. With a 5-3 win on penalties against NK Celje , FC Koper qualified for the 06/07 UEFA Cup as cup winners . In 2008 the club was renamed again, this time in FC Luka Koper .

In 2009/10 the club celebrated its greatest success when it secured the championship title for the first time four game days before the end of the season with a 2-0 win at NK Rudar Velenje .
