Nadine is a female given name of Russian origin and French derivation.

Origin and meaning

Nadine is a French derivative of the Russian given name Nadeschda ( Russian Надежда , "hope") and its short form Nadja .

The name day is on September 12th, the feast of the name of the Virgin .

Previously practically uncommon in Germany, the name Nadine quickly became very popular in the early 1970s. From the mid-1970s to the end of the 1980s, it was one of the most frequently given female first names of the respective year. Its popularity then gradually declined at first, from the turn of the millennium onwards.
