Nadine is a French derivative of the Russian given name Nadeschda ( Russian Надежда , "hope") and its short form Nadja .
The name day is on September 12th, the feast of the name of the Virgin .

Previously practically uncommon in Germany, the name Nadine quickly became very popular in the early 1970s. From the mid-1970s to the end of the 1980s, it was one of the most frequently given female first names of the respective year.
