Nathaniel Thurmond (born July 25, 1941 in Akron , Ohio , † July 16, 2016 in San Francisco , California ), called Nate the Great , was an American basketball player . Between 1963 and 1977 he played in the NBA for the teams of the San Francisco Warriors / Golden State Warriors , Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers .

Thurmond became the first player to score a quadruple double in one game when he scored 22 points, 14 rebounds , 13 assists and 12 blocks against the Atlanta Hawks on October 8, 1974 .

In 1985, Thurmond was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame . He is also included in the list of the 50 best basketball players of all time .
