The National Park El Teide ( Spanish Parque nacional del Teide ) is a protected area on the Spanish island of Tenerife . It is named after Mount Teide , was established in 1954 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 . The national park is the largest and oldest of its kind in the Canary Islands . The area is threatened by forest fires .
The El Teide National Park is also a popular hiking area. A network of currently 38 official hiking routes leads to its various sights.
