The Hardt nature reserve with an area of ​​49.10  hectares is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen. It is in the Emst district . In the south-west, the NSG borders directly on the elevated Bundesstraße 54 and Volmetalstraße. The B 54 separates the NSG from the Volme . The NSG is otherwise almost only surrounded by buildings. Only in the north is the 3.76 hectare nature reserve east of Delstern directly borderedand a cemetery to the southeast. The K 2 divides the NSG into two parts. The nature conservation information system of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia bears the false name Hard for the NSG.

The NSG comprises a deciduous forest area on the Volmetal slope. At the foot of the steep slope there is a dry lawn on the slope of the B 54. In the east of the NSG there are two former limestone quarries.

Protection purpose

The NSG was designated as a nature reserve for the preservation and restoration of communities or habitats of certain wild plant and wild animal species as well as for the preservation and development of nationally significant biotopes of rare and endangered as well as typical wild plant and animal species of European importance .
