Mattmecketal nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mattmecketal nature reserve is a 12.77 hectare nature reserve (NSG) in the municipality of Kierspe in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2003 by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 7 Kierspe .

Area description

The NSG consists of the Mattmecke and Gelmecke valleys with forest and grassland. In the creek area there are creek-alder-ash forest, alder-swamp forest and gray willow bushes as well as wet and wet grassland areas. In the upper valley area there is lean grassland on the lower slopes.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the maintenance and development of a valley-biotope complex and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
