The Fernhagener Bach und Jubachtal nature reserve is a 56.88 hectare nature reserve (NSG) east of the Jubachtalsperre in the municipality of Kierspe in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2003 by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 7 Kierspe . The NSG begins on the eastern bank of the Jubachtalsperre. The NSG part with the Fernhagener Bach goes to the federal motorway 45 .

Area description

The NSG consists of wooded valley areas of the Fernhagener Bach and the Jubach, as well as the adjacent slope moor and spring areas. The wet forests in the valleys are bog birch quarry forest, brook alder ash forest and alder swamp forest. European beech forest with spring moor areas grows on the slopes .

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species for the preservation and development of one of two valley areas with forest, springs and sloping moors. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
