The NSG was designated in 2003 by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 7 Kierspe . The NSG begins directly after the village of the same name.

Area description

The NSG is a sub-area of the near-natural upper course of the Lingese stream with its wooded banks and adjacent wet grassland.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve has been designated for the preservation and development of a stream valley with floodplain and grassland and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
