Nature reserve Auf der Mark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Auf der Mark is a 12.13 hectare nature reserve (NSG) in the municipality of Kierspe in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2003 by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 7 Kierspe .

Area description

The NSG is a forest-moor biotope complex. There is a source area with oak and birch forests rich in lichen, peat moss and pipe grass and an adjoining natural stream area. In the forest area there is a brook-alder-ash forest, alder-swamp forest, bog birch break forest and oak-birch forest. In the NSG there is also a juniper heather and a small slope moor with typical moor vegetation. It is surrounded by a 90% covered peat moss cushion, in which the downy birch and the red alder occur in roughly equal proportions. The alders and birches are dying off locally, so that there is a lot of dead wood with lichen growth. In the adjacent spruce forest, several sources with little vegetation arise, whose spring channels overgrown with peat moss then flow through the alder-birch forest.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the preservation and development of a forest-bog biotope complex and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
