NSG is a swamp forest area. There are black alder forests, alder-ash forests and moor birch forests. In a dry area there is an oak-birch forest. In the NSG there is a fire fighting pond , which is important as a species protection water .

Protection purpose

According to the nature reserve designation, the area was designated a nature reserve for the preservation, development and restoration of a break forest area with specially adapted flora and fauna; for the conservation, development and restoration of semi-natural deciduous forests. Furthermore, to contribute to the safeguarding of the ecological network Natura 2000 of the EU in the sense of the Habitats Directive and to the preservation and development of communities and habitats of wild, partly endangered animal and plant species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
