The London Borough of Brent is a borough of London . It is located in the northwest of the city. When the Greater London Administrative Region was established in 1965, it emerged from the Municipal Borough of Wembley and the Municipal Borough of Willesden in the County of Middlesex .

The population in 2008 was composed of 46.2% white, 28.1% Asian, 17.7% black and 1.3% Chinese. Along with Newham, Brent is one of two districts in which ethnic minorities make up the majority of the population. The district has large Indian, Irish and Caribbean communities. The Irish community is the largest in England (by population).

The district got its name from the river of the same name , on which further south also Brentford (in the municipality of Hounslow ) and further north the suburb of Brentwood lie. In Brent are the Wembley Stadium , the Kensal Green Cemetery and the Neasden Temple (Shri Swaminarayan Mandir), the largest Hindu temple outside of India , which was built by the Swaminarayan religious association Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS).
