Further publications appeared in the New York Times , Esquire and Playboy , among others . Works

George writes both nonfiction and novels, but is far better known for his "non-fictional" works. These mostly revolve around specific aspects of African American culture, mainly African American music, but also about African American film and basketball . George puts these aspects in context with the culture through which they emerged or still emerge, thereby illuminating their mutual effects. His motivation to write books stemmed from the knowledge that nobody wrote the books that he himself would have liked to read. He therefore writes these for people who are similar to what he once did.

His best-known and, with the exception of Urban Romance , the only works that have been translated into German are The Death of Rhythm & Blues (German: R&B - The history of black music ) and Hip Hop America (German: XXX - Three decades of HipHop ), which began in 1999 with was awarded the American Book Award .

His novels mostly have erotic content . According to his own statement, they stimulate his imagination and thus serve him as a counterpoint to his factual works.

" These books and stories were created to balance me out, to give voice to a side of me that I really enjoy exposing. "
