Neudorf is a part of the municipality of Uplengen in the district of Leer in East Frisia . The head of the village is Grete Broers. The total size of the local area is nine square kilometers.

history

The place, which is popularly known in Low German as "Riesbarg" (Reisberg), was mentioned for the first time in 1824 in Uplengen church records. Neudorf is a colony that was created on the southern edge of what was once a large moorland area. Remnants of this moor are under nature protection as Neudorfer Moor . The construction of the connecting canal between Jümme and the Ems-Jade Canal from 1828 drained large parts of the area so that they could be settled. 30 Kolonate having a size of from five to six and a half Diemat (about 300-390 Ar ) were available for this purpose. The first settlers lived in moor cottages made of clay, as can be seen today in the Moordorf Moor Museum , and gained more arable land by digging up peat.

After the Second World War , the place had a total of 322 inhabitants in 1946. 103 of them were refugees (32 percent of the total population). By 1950 their share had fallen to 25.8 percent. In 2011 the place had 327 inhabitants, spread over 135 households.

On January 1, 1973 Neudorf was incorporated into the new municipality of Uplengen.
