Neuhammer (Polish Nowa Kuźnia ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Neuhammer is located in the municipality of Proskau ( Prószków ) in the Powiat Opolski (Opole district) in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location
Neuhammer is located three kilometers northwest of Proskau and 14 kilometers southwest of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole .
To the west of Neuhammer flows the Proskau , a tributary of the Oder, which backs up to Neuhammer Teich.

Neighboring towns of Neuhammer are Dometzko ( Domecko ) in the north, Zlattnik ( Złotniki ) in the east , Proskau ( Prószków ) in the south-west and Ochotz ( Ochodze ) in the west .
history
The place was first mentioned in the 17th century as "Neuhammer". There were once iron works in the place and the village consisted only of workers' houses. When the works came in, the Count of Proskau gave the residents land and turned them into gardeners. In 1784 Neuhammer had 16 gardener's houses and belonged to Proskau. In 1845 the village consisted of 26 houses. In the same year, 207 people lived in Neuhammer, one of them Protestant. In 1865 the place had 16 gardeners, nine cottagers and four local farmers. Furthermore, a miller, a Kretschmer (innkeeper), a Viktualien dealer, a blacksmith, a tailor and a shoemaker were resident in the village. At this point in time, the students were enrolled in Chrzumczütz.
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 92 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 80 for Poland. Neuhammer remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 392 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 377 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .
In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Nowa Kuźnia and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Opolski . On July 11, 2006, German was introduced as the second official language in the community of Proskau, which Neuhammer belongs to. On April 30, 2010, the place was also given the official German place name Neuhammer .

Neuhammer pond
The Neuhammer pond and the surrounding landscape were declared a nature reserve in 1957 (Polish Rezerwat Staw Nowokuźnicki ). The size of the area is 20 hectares.
