The Den is a football stadium in the south-east London borough of Bermondsey , United Kingdom . The facility in the borough of Southwark is located south of the Thames . It is the home ground of the English football club Millwall FC .

history

In 1993 Millwall FC moved from The Old Den , which is just five hundred meters away, to the new building with 20,146 seats. The seats are distributed over four almost identical, individually standing stands behind the goals or on the long sides of the playing field. It was the first new football stadium to be built in the English capital after the Second World War . At the beginning of the 2007/08 season, the stadium was officially renamed from The New Den to The Den , taking the name of the old stadium. The old stadium from 1910 became The Old Den .

At the beginning of October 2019, the Lewisham Council ended a 2013 contract with Renewal. This envisaged the sale of the property on the property bordering the stadium. This prevented the plans for the expansion of the site. The Lions were considering moving outside of London to Kent for this reason . The decision ensured that Millwall FC would remain at The Den . New apartments or social housing , workplaces and a train station are to be built on the surrounding property .
