Routing
From its starting point Whanrarei , the road leads via Maunu , Maungatapere , Whatitiri , Waiotama to Tangiteroria , where it meets the Wairoa River . A first loop of the river to the south cuts the highway . The next big bend in the river to the north from Tanmgowahine is followed by the SH 14 to the west, then to the south. At Awakino Point the road then swings to the southwest and shortly afterwards reaches the town of Dargaville and the SH 12 .
