The New Zealand State Highway 45 ( State Highway 45 or SH 45 for short , also called " Surf Highway ") is a trunk road of national importance on the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The trunk road has a length of 105 km and connects the city of New Plymouth in the New Plymouth District with the city of Hawera , which is in the South Taranaki District . The highway describes on its route a semicircle to the west, in the center of which is Mount Taranaki in the center of the Egmont National Park .
Since there is a significantly shorter connection between New Plymouth and Hawera with the approximately 64 km long route over the New Zealand State Highway 3 between New Plymouth and Hawera , the SH 45 is mainly used by locals and tourists. About 1.5 hours are required for the journey by car.
