Nick Allder

Nicholas John Allder (born February 10, 1943 in Buckinghamshire , England ) is an English special effects artist who received the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 1980 for Alien - The Uncanny Creature from a Strange World .

Life

His father, John Allder, was a camera technician. He began his career as a cameraman for commercials. Eight years later he switched to special effects. Here he worked in the 1970s on the television series Moon Base Alpha 1 and on science fiction films such as Alien Attack: The Aliens Strike and The Empire Strikes Back .

In 1980 he received the Oscar for Best Visual Effects with HR Giger , Carlo Rambaldi , Brian Johnson and Denys Ayling for Alien - The uncanny creature from a strange world . He was nominated for the 1986 BAFTA Award for the fantasy film Legende . When he was nominated for the second prize in 1998 for The Fifth Element , he won it in the Best Visual Effects category .

He currently heads the special effects department at Media Pro Studios in Romania .
