Nicolas Thévenin
Nicolas Henry Marie Denis Thévenin (born June 5, 1958 in Saint-Dizier , Haute-Marne , France ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and diplomat of the Holy See . He has been Apostolic Nuncio in Egypt and Apostolic Delegate to the Arab League since 2019 .
Life
Nicolas Thévenin is a graduate of the Institut Commercial de Nancy (1981). In Genoa he entered the diocesan seminary there as a member of the priestly community of Saint Martin . He received in July 4, 1989 Genoa by Giovanni Cardinal Canestri the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1990 to 1992 he graduated from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy and was awarded a Dr. iur. can. PhD .
On June 1, 1994, Thévenin entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and subsequently worked in the papal missions in India , the Democratic Republic of the Congo , Belgium , Lebanon , Cuba and Bulgaria . Pope John Paul II awarded Thévenin the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on July 8, 1995 and the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on August 4, 2004 . In 2005 he was appointed State Secretary to the State Secretariat of the Vatican by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone . In 2009 he was appointed to the prefecture of the Papal House to lead the papal receptions of the heads of state and ambassadors in the Apostolic Palace . At the same time he became a member of the College of Apostolic Protonotaries .
On December 15, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Aeclanum and ordered Thevenin on January 5, 2013 as the Apostolic Nuncio in Guatemala . He received his episcopal ordination from Pope Benedict XVI. on January 6, 2013 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB and Zenon Cardinal Grocholewski . As a motto he chose Veritas vis misericordiæ .
Pope Francis appointed Thévenin on November 4, 2019 as Apostolic Nuncio to Egypt and as Apostolic Delegate to the Arab League .
