The tournaments
Olympia 1996 in Atlanta
The Dutch women were in the qualifiers for the 1995 World Cup in Iceland failed, then that also failed to qualify. "Since there was not enough time for a qualifying round, the eight best teams from the 1995 World Cup were automatically invited to the Olympic tournament."
Olympia 2000 in Sydney
The three best European teams from the 1999 World Cup qualified for the second Olympic tournament. Both were then able to qualify for the Olympic Games at the World Cup, where the Norwegians won the gold medal.
Olympia 2004 in Athens

2008 Olympics in Beijing

Olympia 2012 in London
The Dutch missed the participation in the tournament in London again. This time they failed in qualifying for the 2011 World Cup to Norway.
Olympia 2016 in Rio de Janeiro
The Dutch women then qualified for the 2015 World Cup for the first time. At the World Cup, England was the best European team and third place in the World Cup, but not eligible to compete in the Olympic Games, Germany and France as fourth and teams eliminated in the quarter-finals were sure of the starting place. However, since the four European teams Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland were eliminated in the round of 16 and it was not clear which was the fourth best European team, the third European participant had to be determined separately.
