The tournaments

Olympia 1996 in Atlanta

By reaching the World Cup quarter-finals in 1995, the Danes qualified for the first Olympic women's football tournament. They started 3-0 against the USA and then lost 5-1 to the People's Republic of China . The last game against Sweden was also lost 3-1, but neither of them had any influence on the rest of the tournament. With the end, the term of office of Keld Gantzhorn as national coach, who had coached the team since 1988, ended.

Olympia 2000 in Sydney

For the second Olympic tournament, the Danes could not qualify under the new national coach Jørgen Hvidemose by being out in the preliminary round of the 1999 World Cup. Hvidemose's tenure ended with the World Cup. He was succeeded by Poul Højmose .

Olympia 2004 in Athens

Since Denmark failed to qualify for the 2003 World Cup in the semi-finals of the relegation games to France , they had no opportunity to qualify for the third Olympic women's football tournament. Højmose remained in office until 2005, after finishing 6th at the Algarve Cup in 2005 , Peter Bonde took over , but he only stayed in office for almost 13 months.

2008 Olympics in Beijing

The three best European teams from the 2007 World Cup qualified for the tournament in Beijing . The first two places went to world champions Germany and fourth place in the World Cup, Norway . Since the third best European team, England, is not eligible to start at the Olympic Games, the third place between Denmark, which has been coached by Kenneth Heiner-Møller since 2006 , and Sweden, who had failed in the preliminary round, had to be played out. The Danes lost both games against the Swedes with 2: 4 and 1: 3 and were not there again.

Olympia 2012 in London

The Danes again missed participation in the tournament in London against the Swedes, where they failed in the playoffs of the qualification for the 2011 World Cup . As a result, there was no way to qualify via the World Cup.

Olympia 2016 in Rio de Janeiro

After leaving the EM semifinals in 2013, Nils Nielsen took over the team. But he also failed to lead the team to the 2015 World Cup , where the three best European teams should qualify for the tournament in Rio de Janeiro . Denmark already failed in the group games of qualifying for the 2015 World Cup against Switzerland .

Olympia 2020 in Tokyo

The Danes missed participation in the tournament in Tokyo by losing to European champions Netherlands in the playoffs of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup . As a result, there was no way to qualify via the World Cup.
