The tournaments

Olympia 1996 in Atlanta

For the first women's Olympic soccer tournament, in addition to hosts USA, only the other seven best teams from the 1995 World Cup and Brazil qualified for the English women who were not eligible to start. Since Cameroon withdrew its report on the 1995 African Cup , which served as a qualification for the World Cup, the team could not qualify for the Olympic Games.

Olympia 2000 in Sydney

In 1998 Cameroon took part in the 1998 African Cup of Nations, but only finished fourth there and was therefore not qualified for the 1999 World Cup. Since only the seven best teams from the World Cup were able to qualify for the second Olympic tournament in addition to hosts Australia, Cameroon was also not in Australia .

Olympia 2004 in Athens

For the third Olympic women's football tournament, the continental associations were allocated starting places, which they distributed in special qualifications. Cameroon did not take part in the African qualification.

2008 Olympics in Beijing

Four years later, Cameroon did not take part in the qualification.

Olympia 2012 in London

The participation in the tournament in London was a big surprise. Cameroon only had to intervene in the second round of the Africa qualification and won against Mali 5-0 and 1-0. In the third round they met Equatorial Guinea , which had taken part in the World Cup a year earlier, and only achieved a 0-0 home game. In the second leg they lost 2-0. But since Equatorial Guinea had used the player Jade Boho , who had previously played for Spain, Equatorial Guinea was disqualified. In the final round they met African champions Nigeria and after they both won their home games 2-1, there was a penalty shoot-out , which Cameroon won 4-3. The women from Cameroon had thus qualified for an intercontinental tournament for the first time.

At the tournament in the United Kingdom , they met Brazil in their first game and lost 5-0. Against the hosts' team GB , which consisted of a team composed of English and a few Scottish players especially for this tournament, a 3-0 defeat followed and the last game against New Zealand was also lost 3-1. After all, Gabrielle Onguéné scored the consolation goal to make it 3-1. As the last group they were eliminated.

Olympia 2016 in Rio de Janeiro

Cameroon could not qualify for the tournament in Rio de Janeiro . In another four-round tournament , they had a bye in the first round and benefited from Liberia's withdrawal in the second round. In the third round they only achieved a 1-1 draw in the home game against Ghana . Since the second leg ended 2-2, they reached the final round due to the away goals rule . Here they won the first leg against Zimbabwe 2-1, but lost the second leg 0-1 and this time the away goals rule spoke against them, so that Zimbabwe could qualify for an intercontinental football tournament for the first time.
