Niederspier is a district of the city of Großenehrich in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .

geography

The cluster village of Niederspier is 230 meters above sea level in the arable hill area on the southern roof of the Hainleite in hilly terrain . The soils made of shell limestone are mostly remote from the groundwater. In the district , however, there are five springs that feed the Sumpfbach, which flows into the Helbe . The rows of fruit trees and the six hundred meter long chestnut and two hundred meter long poplar avenues are striking. In terms of traffic, the place is next to the road links on the Wolkramshausen – Erfurt railway line with a stop.

history

The place was first mentioned in documents as early as 822–840. Today 344 people live in the always agriculturally oriented district. Until 1918 the place belonged to the rule of the principality Schwarzburg-Sondershausen .

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on May 25, 1993.

Blazon : “Split by red and silver; topped with a deer antler with grind in mistaken tinctures, in between a floating golden ear on the gap. "

Since the community of Niederspier lies on the former territory of the Sondershausen rulership and this has antlers as its territorial coat of arms, this was also used here, but in red and silver tinging. The ear comes from the old community seal that was used at the beginning of the 18th century.

Attractions

In the cemetery in Niederspier, the grave monument of a forced laborer from Poland reminds us that up to 400 prisoners of war , military internees and forced laborers from several European countries were used in the districts of Großenehrich during the Second World War .

The similarity of the steeple of the church with the tower of the St. Crucis Church in Großenehrich is striking .
