Nieder-Werbe is a district of the city of Waldeck in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg and a state-approved resort .

geography

The village is located about 4 km west of the Waldecker core town on the northern edge of the Kellerwald-Edersee nature park . It is located at the northern end of the largest branch of the Edersee at the confluence of the Werbe coming from the northwest and the Reiherbach coming from the northeast into a fore basin of the reservoir.

The Scheid peninsula also belongs to the place . There are campsites and holiday apartments, a bathing beach with a lawn and playground, inns and a landing stage for passenger ships.

history

People already settled in the area of ​​today's Nieder-Werbe in prehistoric times, as two ramparts from the La Tène period (approx. 500 BC ) testify.

Nieder-Werbe, which alternately belonged to the monasteries Berich , Netze and Werbe , was first mentioned in a document in 1196. When the Edertalsperre was built from 1908 to 1914, a lot also changed for Nieder-Werbe. Ten courtyards and the church had to give way to the lake. After the construction of the barrier, however, tourism developed into the most important branch of the economy today.

On October 1, 1971, the previously independent community of Nieder-Werbe was incorporated into the town of Waldeck.

Infrastructure

Nieder-Werbe has a local museum , two hotels, a few holiday homes and several holiday apartments. There is a summer toboggan run to the west of the village .

Regular events

  • A water and light festival has been celebrated at the Reiherbach Vorbecken since the early 1970s .
  • The Easter fire on Holy Saturday is organized every year by the Nieder-Werbe rural youth .
  • The SV Werbetal organizes a small field tournament, dragon boat races and a village festival.
  • A torch-lit hike is organized every December by the volunteer fire brigade's association.
