Nikolaus Büchel (born September 30, 1957 in Vienna ) is a Liechtenstein actor and director.

Life

Büchel grew up in Vienna, where he did his Matura at the Gymnasium Klostergasse in Vienna. The Liechtenstein citizen by birth began his studies in law, art history, theater studies and Romance studies in Vienna and Munich in 1975.

In 1977 he began his acting and directing training at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and was already working as a freelance actor in Vienna and Munich. He appeared in film and television roles on " Derrick " and " Der Schüler Gerber ". After graduating from the Mozarteum, Büchel was hired as an actor and assistant director at the Schauspiel Bonn in 1981, where he staged works with Hans Hollmann , Peter Palitzsch , Rudolf Noelte , Peter Eschberg , Horst Zankl , Kurt Hübner and Ellen Hammer. At the same time he completed private singing studies in Munich with Jean Stawsky and in Cologne with Waltraud Schulte-Greve.

Since 1985 Büchel has worked mostly as a freelance director and dramaturge on various stages in German-speaking countries. His productions premiered at the Schauspiel Bonn, Volkstheater Vienna, Schillertheater Berlin, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart, Schauspiel Essen, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Kammeroper Wien, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Landestheater Innsbruck, Theater in der Josefstadt-Rabenhof Vienna. At the same time, Büchel dealt with structural advice and participated in symposia on theater structure in Frankfurt am Main. From 1987 to 1990 he was assistant to the artistic director and member of the dramaturgy at the Schauspiel Bonn.

In 1988 Büchel's first guest professorship for dramatic lessons at the Mozarteum followed, which was followed by another professorship in 1996. In 1992 Büchel took over the Melk Summer Games, which were then very boulevard- esque, in the baroque garden of the Benedictine monastery , and he remained the artistic director and artistic director of the Grillparzer cycle, Faust I + II, until 2001. From 1994 to 1997 Büchel was artistic director in equal team directorship and acting director of the stages of the state capital Kiel. In 1997, Büchel was awarded the Lower Austrian Culture Prize for performing arts for his productions.

In 1998 the guest professorships at the Mozarteum Salzburg were followed by a separate teaching position in the main subject of drama at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and a teaching position at the Institute for Cultural Management at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In 2001 Büchel resigned his directorship in Melk, founded the theater agency Ensemble A for projects and artists in Vienna and wrote a scientific paper on the city theater and its structures in German-speaking countries. From 2003 to 2006 Büchel became a member of the artistic direction in Klaus Weise's team at the Bonn Theater and deputy chairman of MusiKi, a support association for musical children's theater.

Büchel has worked as a freelance director and dramaturge on German-speaking theaters, mainly in Graz and Vienna, since 2006.
