action
Lilly Leonard and Dan De Mora have been divorced for 14 years and both later remarried. They meet at the wedding of their daughter Molly, who marries the politician Keith Marks. There they discover that they still love each other. They go on vacation to New York City together .
Keith fears the events will damage his image. He and Molly travel after the couple. Since Lilly and Dan are in hiding, Molly hires photographer Joey Donna to look for her parents. Donna finds her in a hotel. Molly confronts her parents there; she and Donna are locked in their parents' hotel room for several hours.
Meanwhile, Marks cheats on his wife with Rowena, Dan's second wife. Lilly's second husband, Alan, a psychoanalyst, is in deep crisis.
In the end, Lilly and Dan are together again. Molly breaks up with Keith and chooses Joey instead.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was a "formulaic romantic comedy" that did not have the "decency" to offer any chemistry between the participants. The story of the reconciliation of Lilly Leonard and Dan De Mora is not enough to support the film. The arguments between the two would appear “forced” and “mechanical”; the sex scenes - "embarrassing" ("awkward"). Dennis Farina and Bette Midler could still have been "very good" in their roles if the script hadn't restricted them.
Ruthe Stein wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle of April 4, 1997 that the exaggerated portrayal of Bette Midler turned the film into a "feverish" comedy; sometimes too feverish to be funny. The script lacks the charm that could compensate for that.
The lexicon of international films said: “A staid, largely pointless comedy. That love is given preference over bourgeois reason is shown without accuracy. "
background
The film was shot in New York City , in Niagara-on-the-Lake ( Ontario ) and Toronto rotated. It grossed approximately $ 16.3 million in US cinemas .
