Norman Burton

Norman Burton (born December 5, 1923 in New York City , New York , † November 29, 2003 near Imperial , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Burton grew up in New York City and was trained at The Actors Studio . His acting career began in New York, where he made a few appearances on Broadway in the late 1960s . He moved to California in favor of a film and television career. For three decades he was seen in guest roles in numerous television series, in 1977 he had the recurring role of Joe Atkinson in the superhero series Wonder Woman . He portrayed General George C. Marshall in the miniseries Firestorm and Ashes .

Burton played in numerous feature films, but never got beyond supporting roles. He was in 1968 in Planet of the Apes and three years later in Escape from the Planet of the Apes , as well as in 1974 in the series adaptation Planet of the Apes in smaller roles. Occasionally he has had roles in blockbusters , such as Flammendes Inferno in 1974 . James Bond fans know Burton as CIA agent Felix Leiter from the movie James Bond 007 - Diamond Fever . He had his last film appearance in 1993 in the martial arts film American Fighter 5 on the side of Pat Morita .

In 1998 he moved with his wife to Ajijic , Mexico , where he worked as an actor and director at the Lakeside Little Theater in Jalisco . In 2003 he died of the consequences of a traffic accident while on his way back to Ajijic after a visit to the USA. A daughter emerged from his marriage to his wife, who died in 2002.
