action

Employees of the investor travel through the area in black cars and persuade the residents to leave the place. Some residents shoot them. Father Harlan takes care of the dying orphan Irwin and wants to stay.

Reviews

Duane Byrge wrote in The Hollywood Reporter on February 4, 2003 that the film toddled and wiggled through a complex plot and philosophical questions. The surreal fairy tale is very complicated and full of imagination. Byrge mentioned the participation of numerous stars like James Woods, Nick Nolte, Kyle MacLachlan and Daryl Hannah in the cast, which could secure the film a place on cable television.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of July 11, 2003 that the film was "visionary" and "elegiac" - more like a fable. It is more "adorable" than entertaining. Although some Sundance Film Festival viewers found the pace to be too slow, the pace was right for the tone of the film.

Awards

In 2003 Michael Polish won the German Independence Award of the International Film Festival Oldenburg and the City of Athens Award of the Athens International Film Festival ; he was nominated for the Grand Special Prize at the 2003 American Film Festival in Deauville . M. David Mullen was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award and the Chlotrudis Award in 2004.

backgrounds

The film was shot in various locations in Montana . Its production amounted to an estimated 1.9 million US dollars . The world premiere took place on January 21, 2003 at the Sundance Film Festival , which was followed by numerous other film festivals. On July 11, 2003, it came to selected cinemas in the United States, where it grossed around 1.4 million US dollars.
