Noszvaj is a Hungarian community in the county Eger in Heves county .

geography

Noszvaj extends over an area of 18.84 km². The community is located on the southern edge of the Bükk Mountains in the valley of the Kánya brook.

history

The name of the settlement was previously associated with the Slavic personal name Neznay , Noznay , as there were Slavic settlements in this area . However, recent research disproves this, saying that the name Noszvaj comes from the word Noszvijj , which means "our village" in Latin . In the second half of the 11th century , a large number of Latin ethnic groups ( speaking Italian , French and Walloon ), whose language belonged to the group of neo-Latin languages, moved into the country . This is supposed to be proven by the fact that the area in the southeast still bears the Italian name Olaszilápa .

Archaeological excavations on the southern slope of the Bükk Mountains and in the vicinity of Noszvaj have proven prehistoric finds that show early traces of human settlement.

Noszvaj was already a settlement in the Árpád ian era , after the conquest it became a royal estate. A donation made it the diocese of Eger . The first written document dates from 1248 , from the time of King Béla IV . The document says that the village was an episcopal village (Villa Episcopalis) at that time, which belonged to the diocese of Eger.

During the Turkish siege of Eger Castle in 1552 , the Turks devastated and burned the settlement and its surroundings. After the siege, Ferdinand I put Noszvaj in the possession of János Figedy, defender of the castle of Eger. At that time, the Reformation was already widespread in the village, as evidenced by a document published in 1564 , according to which there was already a Calvinist church in Noszvaj at that time.

In 1680 he bought years ago the son of a Turkish wine merchant 's Almagyar and Noszvaj forever from the treasury of the Sultan 's. After the fight against Eger in 1686 he stayed in the city , was baptized and took the name Ferenc Noszvaji . With his death without a successor, the minority inherited the house and property of Eger.
