Octavio Broggio
Antonio Octavio Broggio (also: Ottavio Broggio , also: Octavian Broggio ; Czech: Oktavián Broggio ) (born January 2, 1670 in Tschischkowitz near Leitmeritz ; † July 24, 1742 ibid) was an important Bohemian architect and builder of the High Baroque .
Life
Octavio was the son of the master builder and architect Giulio Broggio, who immigrated from Italy . He attended the Leitmeritzer grammar school, then he did an apprenticeship with his father. In 1694 he became a citizen of the city of Leitmeritz, where he was councilor and guild elder of the masons from 1718 to 1732 . In this role he also translated the Czech version of the guild regulations into German. As a successor to his father, he became the city and diocesan master builder of Leitmeritz.
Octavio initially worked on various objects belonging to his father. After his death he became self-employed and known as an important builder of the high baroque. He was mainly active in northern Bohemia.
