At the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires , two horse riding competitions , specifically show jumping , were held from October 8th to 13th .
The riders at the Youth Summer Games do not ride their own horses, instead they have been given rental horses.
No national teams competed in the team competition. Instead, continental teams were formed from five riders each. The qualification for the teams took place via the continental championships of the juniors or, if there was no such championship, via the continental ranking at the FEI World Jumping Challenge. The starting places for the European team were allocated based on the individual evaluation of the 2017 European Junior Championship in Šamorín .
Results
Team jumping
The team competition was announced as a jumping competition with two rounds and (if there was a tie on the medal ranks) a single jump- off. For each team, the three best results per round were included in the evaluation, so there were two deleted results.
After two laps, Europe and North America were jointly in first place without penalty points. In the jump-off, the first two riders of the teams each made one mistake. The other riders did not make any mistakes, so that in the end there were again no penalty points for both teams. The time required for the three best results of the jump-off was the only decisive factor. Just as the United States won the gold medal against Sweden at the World Equestrian Games almost two weeks earlier, the North Americans were faster than the Europeans at the Summer Youth Games. Thus, North America won the show jumping team competition at the Youth Olympic Games for the first time.

Single jump
The individual jumping was also organized as a jumping competition with two rounds and a single jump - off . All 30 riders were allowed to start, but Edgar Fung from Hong Kong did not compete.
After two laps, five riders were in the lead without penalty points and thus qualified for the jump-off. Team gold medalist Mattie Hatcher opened the jump-off, but with two obstacle errors. Omar Al Marzooqi was different, as the second starter he took the lead without a mistake. But this only lasted for one ride, Giacomo Casadei was more than two seconds faster than Al Marzooqi without penalty points.
This put the pressure on local hero Richard Kierkegaard. After a refusal and two obstacle errors in the course, the Argentine only got fifth place, as Pedro Espinosa was the last rider to finish with only four penalty points.
