The individual competition of the men in badminton at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was from July 28 to August 5 in the Wembley Arena discharged.

From a total of 40 participants, 16 players who were distributed among the 16 groups were placed. Two or three players were drawn to the groups on July 23rd. In the groups everyone played against everyone, the group winner qualified for the next round, which was played in the knockout system , in which the winners reached the next round. The losers in the semifinals then played the bronze medal.

Lin Dan from China is the first badminton player to repeat his Olympic victory.
In 2008 Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei ( Malaysia ) faced each other in the final. Dan won the final 21:12 and 21: 8.
The fourth place, Lee Hyun-il from South Korea , also failed in the 2008 bronze medal match. At that time he lost with 16:21, 21:12 and 14:21 against the Chinese Chen Jin .
