This article covers the Zambian Olympic selection during the 1980 Summer Olympics .
Olympic qualification
After one in the 1st round bye , had put Zambia in the second round against Lesotho and entered the decisive third round. There they were defeated by Egypt and originally missed qualifying for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow . Due to the boycott of Egypt because of the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan , Zambia was subsequently registered by the CAF for the Olympic tournament.

Games
After two defeats against Cuba and the host Soviet Union, Zambia could not reach the quarter-finals on the last matchday. After the 1: 2 defeat against Venezuela, the team finished fourth in the group and was eliminated from the tournament.
