This article covers the Venezuelan Olympic football selection during the 1980 Summer Olympics .

Olympic qualification

The South American Zone identified its participants for the 1980 Summer Olympics in a tournament in Colombia . Venezuela took fourth place in the final table and originally missed qualifying for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow . Due to the boycott of Argentina because of the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan , Venezuela was subsequently registered by CONMEBOL for the Olympic tournament.

After two defeats against hosts the Soviet Union and Cuba, Venezuela could not reach the quarter-finals on the last day of the game. After the 2-1 victory over Zambia, the team took third place in the group and was eliminated from the tournament.
